The Lunar New Year is fast approaching. The first day of the lunar new year will fall on 26th January 2009. The Ox is the 2nd animal on the zodiac signs and signifies hard-work, patience, and ultimately just rewards for their efforts
The writings on the left and right sides of the door, collectively called 'dui lian', is typical of Chinese homes in the old days. The dui lian must rhyme in some ways that's pleasing to the ears, and have meanings or wishes relevant to the festive occasion. Those on the sides of doors always come in pair.
The dui lian above, being meant for the Chinese Lunar New Year celebration, is also called chun lian. Here they are written in the Li-Shu style. This style was common during the Han Dynasty, over 2,200 years ago. Nowadays, very few people are proficient in this style. So those who can master it are very much respected and sought after.
