A Star Is Born

What an instant fame. 47 year old Susan Boyle came to "Britains Got Talent 2009" audition hoping to give it a try. Instead she wowed the audience and judges. She got three emphatic "YESes" from all three judges, viz Simon Cowell, Piers Morgan, and Amanda Holden. It was a rare feat indeed, given that before she began, nobody seemed to give her any chance. She dreamed, and she made it.

That night, she sang "I Dreamed a Dream". As she progressed, the audience and judges were awe struck by her superb voices. At the end of it, they gave her standing ovation. One could sense the joy on her faces, the ecstasy and her own way of celebration on the stage. Susan Boyle must have been in cloud nine at that moment. Watching her sing on the YouTube is really heart warming. Imagine, from relative obscurity, she was transported to instant recognition. A new star is born. As she was going backstage, Piers said "what a voice!", and Amanda noted "incredible!". What's her dream? She aspires to be a successful professional singer, like Elaine Page.

Now, It really strikes me that to get noticed, one has to have the courage to stand in front of the world to prove his/her talent. I supposed she came to the right forum to make a try. Prior to that she had been singing at churches and karaokes, and nobody really thought she would have the material to wow the audience and judges, much less the world. She became an instant sensation. I believe from now on, with the media attention, her life will not be the same again. Her future is sure to shine, brightly. In the hours of glory, Susan Boyle said she remained a humble person. I salute her.

Watch her sing on the YouTube.
As of now, over 37,800,000 people worldwide have viewed it on the YouTube

Here's the lyrics of the song:

I Dreamed a Dream

Composer: Claude-Michel Schönberg

There was a time when men were kind
When their voices were soft
And their words inviting
There was a time when love was blind
And the world was a song
And the song was exciting
There was a time and it all went wrong

I dreamed a dream in days gone by
When hope was high and life worth living
I dreamed that love would never die
I dreamed that god would be forgiving

Then I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used and wasted
There was no ransom to be paid
No song unsung no wine untasted

But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hope apart
As they turn your dream to shame

He slept a summer by my side
He filled my days with endless wonder
He took my childhood in his stride
But he was gone when autumn came

And still I dreamed he'd come to me
That we would live the years together
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms we cannot weather

I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I'm living
So different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed
The dream, the dream I dreamed
